Group Description

The PLM had ready designs for another a lot larger 4-8-zero locomotive by 1913, but it didn’t materialise as a result of the outbreak of the first World War. In 1906, the NGR modified six of its Class B 4-8-0 Mastodon locomotives, constructed by NBL in 1904, to Class Altered B locomotives to improve their stability on passenger trains. Hendrie to be used in coal traffic on the road from Witbank to Germiston, they had been the biggest non-articulated locomotives in South Africa at the time.

In 1914, ten Class 15 locomotives entered service, constructed by NBL and Vape Disposables designed by Hendrie as giant combined site visitors locomotives with bigger 57 inches (1,448 millimetres) coupled wheels to be used in the Orange Free State, Vape Disposables where grades and curvature were much less extreme than on the coastal sections. As for the fourth driving wheels, vape e-liquids adopted Golsdorf axle system (patented by Karl Golsdorf), this make the outer driving wheels able to move laterally by one hundred mm.
